Eco-Friendly Friday
Hey there, I just saw this and thought it was cool. Lots of blogs do weekly postings for certain things like Wordless Wednesdays, Photo Fridays and all kinds of other challenges. I am not sure if I could ever keep up with the pace of all that posting...but this one sure does suit us well.
SO...here's my eco-friendly tip for the week.
Since many of my friends have requested this super money saving homemade laundry detergent recipe and I've been making and using a version of it for many years now..I'll post my latest find here.
1 bar of grated soap (Fels Naptha is recommended, but I use our soap we make and I think any natural soap would work great)
1 cup borax
1 cup WASHING soda (Arm and Hammer makes it and it's usually in the detergent aisle)
**optional*** 1/4 cup of Oxyclean
Mix it all up in a reused covered tub. Add 1 TABLESPOON (2 if it's really nasty) per load of laundry. Viola... clean, tree huggery clothes!
So there you have it. A eco-friendly tip that cuts out all the nasty super cleaner chemicals and bleach from your laundry cycle. Also, the website I got my latest recipe from says "Cost to make your own: Around $2 per batch. This is about 5.7 cents per load (using 2 tablespoons for each load, you get about 35 loads). Arm & Hammer laundry detergent is about 12.4 cents per load. Tide detergent is 30 cents and more per load."
I've given out the recipe to many folks and we've all had success, even on the 'ripest', baby saturated, and garden worthy of clothing. **EDIT: and it works GREAT in our front loader that needs High Effciency detergent. (Thanks mom for the reminder)**
SO...good luck and go save the planet...one load at a time!
