Last weekend we decided...rather last minute...that it was going to be a road tripping weekend. Brian had Friday off already and we had planned to visit our wonderful WI buddy, Susan and her family up at Sanibel Island. They make a yearly visit down to see the rest of their family and get a little FL sun. 
Since we live down here now we are kind of adopted into the family for a day. Each year since we moved here we've also made the trip to Sanibel to enjoy some great conversation, yummy food and silly songs. Here's our a picture during our sad goodbye to Susie...as you can see Dex was so distraught he couldn't even look up!
THEN...came the last minute part! Well, we had decided that morning that we would continue on from Sanibel to Gainesville, FL to check out the city and see what it was all about before all the college folk came back. 
I have to say we had our timing just about right because within about 20 minutes of leaving Susie Dex was super sacked out in the back. I just couldn't resist this pic...aren't sleeping babies just the cutest?
So, on we drove. After a few more hours we were near the big city so we called around for a hotel...and...nothing!! College Graduation weekend!!! YIKES. We held up in a Super 8 just outside of Ocala and we can't say it was a pleasant event. BUT...the next morning we were on our way. Gainesville was fun! We did a bunch of exploring, ate at a great little cafe, and enjoyed our second hotel much better than the first. Here's a few photos we took on the trip.
YUP, that's ALL of them. I can't believe we didn't take more!! The bottom two are actually taken by the little man. As you see from the third pic...he needed a little more entertainment than books and toys! For last minute packing, planning and throwing a few things together...it turned out great. Maybe we'll do it more often and see a few more FL cities!
