Last weekend and most of this week has been designated as Garden Days!
Last week, we received our drip irrigation system equipment and it was time to get started so that the garden could get underway. As you see Dexter decided the box was a great place for book reading and relaxing. Little did he know that this box was only a small sign of the amount of work that would be coming in the next few months!
Brian did a ton of work clearing all the beds of our summer cover crop of sweet potato throughout the week. By Saturday we were ready for trenching, planting and drip watering!
With 17 raised beds to 'plumb' it was a huge job!To get an overall perspective, Brian took the above two photos from the roof of the lanai. (We had a photo stitch program for the camera somewhere...but I don't know where it is). SO...I hope you get the idea that our ENTIRE backyard is garden.
Irrigation Zone 1 was finished on Sunday (again thanks to hubby's determination!!) and we connected up the last of the lines on Zone 2 today. So we're all set.
Besides all that irrigating, Dexter and I did a bunch of planting. Mostly, it me planting tiny tiny seeds in trays and Dex dumping full envelopes into one or two of 'his' trays. We had a bunch of fun either way.
Check out his rad apron I made for him last month...and my super frumpy one that came in a Freecycled bag of fabric. Brian says I look homely...unfortunately after looking at these pictures...I have to agree.
Now it's just time to wait until the sprouts are ready for the ground. We were surprised to see our Napa Cabbage up after just 2 days!!
...and so it begins...
