His school adventure has begun!!
Our little....now big ... boy is now a full fledged kindergartner! He's been at it for three weeks and things seem to be going great. (yes, three weeks...you can't expect me to blog in a timely fashion after taking the entire summer of now would you :) )
He was so excited to get started. He walked right into his classroom, found his spot and went right about chatting it up with his table mates and hardly took a moment to say goodbye to Papa, little brother and I. Yes, I was fighting back the lump in my throat! He's such a big boy now.
After the first week of school I did go in to volunteer one day and was happy to hear the report of him being a great student....always kind, attentive....and the class hugger (mostly with the girls!!!).
THEN....last week we took the next step in school independence...... Riding THE BUS!!!
Again, he was more than excited, sprinted right out ahead as we headed for the bus stop, hopped right on the bus and didn't even turn to wave goodbye!!! AND this time....Mama did cry!! It's that crazy feeling of letting your first born go out on a limb. You just want to keep them safe....you want to be in control of their every movement....and it's just time to let a tiny tiny bit of line out for them by being away from you all day. THEN....you have to totally cast them out there when you let an unknown person....in an unknown vehicle (well sort of ) take your child from your house!!! Yes, a little dramatic, but I'm a mom and that's the way my mind works. Thankfully, Papa was there to pat MY back and call me throughout the day to make sure I was ok.
...and because this mom can't totally let go (as if you can't tell :) ) I had him only ride the bus in the morning. You know the whole...one destination....can't really screw that up deal. The afternoon thing worries me. So many buses to get on, so many stops to get off at!
BUT...He's been riding the bus for a full week and has now memorized his bus number and face of the bus driver. That was my requirement before we could even think about afternoon bus drop off. SO....I guess it's another step....I'll go in on Monday and sign him up for afternoon drop off!! Yes, I will be waiting at that corner with an eagle eye out for every yellow vehicle that drives by. You know I will.
In an effort to stay just a little bit connected to by big independent kindergartner, I've still been packing his lunches and snacks each day. If you're friends with me on Facebook you'll know that I try to keep it healthy and fresh and post photos of all his lunches. I always thought its a little fun, but a little odd when I posted a few last year....but this year....every photo gets a lot of feedback and I see friends out and about and they tell me not to stop.....SOOOOOO.....for those of you who are interested in a tasty lunch....have a look see.... (I'll continue to post of Flickr andfacebook too if you want to keep getting ideas too)
* We use the Laptop Lunches lunchbox if anyone is interested! WE LOVE them...and have two!
So yes, onward and upward for our little, correction....now BIG boy (and momma too :) )!!
And just a side note.... How do you think little brother feels about having big brother gone all day? YES, he misses him! He gets into a lot less trouble, but sure is happy to see brother waiting in carline when we pick him up.
How does little man feel about having Momma all to himself all day long?? I think this s(th)ums it up pretty well.
